You are sitting in your office chair, your excitement from lunch has worn down, your food coma has set in, your eyelids are getting heavy, and the clock reads 2:30 p.m. You start to wonder how you will find the strength to be productive until 5 o’clock hits, let alone stay awake. We’ve got you covered. Here are three tips to beat that infamous afternoon slump and help you power through the rest of your work day.
1. Stretch and Walk Around – Studies show that long periods of sitting is bad for us – increasing risks of heart disease, obesity, and more. Make sure that you take the time to stand up, stretch, and take a stroll through your office every hour or so to decrease the health risks and instantly increase your energy levels.
2. Sip Green Tea – Your afternoon slump can automatically have you reaching for that coffee pot, but let’s skip that nutrient-void cup o’joe and opt for green tea instead! The caffeine in your tea will be enough to keep you alert throughout the day and its added nutritional benefits will be a healthier alternative as well.
3. Eat a Healthy Snack – High-protein snacks keep you energized without making you feel sluggish or causing a crash like sugar can. Try eating a handful of almonds, a piece of cheese, or even an apple with a spoonful of peanut butter to revive your blood sugar and energy levels.
