Summer is heating up and that scorching sun can make anyone grab a glass of something tall and cold and refreshing, even if it is not the healthiest choice. That is why Dr. Roger Sahoury has put together a series of 5 recipes for “gourmet” water that are simply irresistible and without those pesky calories.
1. Cucumber Water
This great recipe by Martha Stewart is simple and delicious!
- 1 medium cucumber, scrubbed well
- 2 quarts spring water
Remove strips of cucumber skin, creating 1/2-inch-wide alternating bands of peeled and bare cucumber. Trim and discard ends. Halve cucumber lengthwise; cut into 1/2-inch slices. Combine cucumber and water in large pitcher; steep for 1 hour, and serve over ice.
2. Mint Water
Refreshing and cooling, this Mint Water recipe by SkinnyMs is a must-try! (You can even add lemon if you want!)
- 12 ounces of water, distilled, spring or purified
- juice of one lemon
- 3 mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon honey or pure maple syrup, optional
Add all the above ingredients to a pretty glass, stir and Enjoy!
3. Lavender Water
Even the sound of this water is gourmet! Get adventurous and try this lovely recipe by Lose Weight By Eating!
- 1 tbsp Lavender dried or fresh
- 1/2 tbsp Mint dried or fresh (Optional)
- Tea bag or coffee filter and string from tea bag
- Large Pitcher
Place Lavender (and Mint) in the baggie or coffee filter, tie up and place at the bottom of a large pitcher, cover in ice 1/3 full then fill the rest up with water. Place in fridge for 10 minutes before serving, pour into a favorite glass.
4. Apple Cinnamon Water
Add some zest to your daily water intake with this Dr. Oz approved recipe shared by Healthy Food House.
- 1 apple thinly sliced (you can use any type of apples, but we recommend using Fuji and Honey Crisp apples as they are sweeter than other apple varieties)
- 1 fresh cinnamon stick
- Ice Cold water
Put the apple slices on the bottom of the pitcher (save some to put in your glass later) and then drop the cinnamon stick, fill half of the pitcher with ice and then add water. You should keep in mind that this tasty water has a hint of flavor, meaning if you want it to taste stronger, add more apples or slice them thinner. Keep apple-cinnamon water in the fridge no more than 3 days.
5. Lemon/Lime Water
Try it with lemon or experiment with lime, whatever you choose, this recipe by Eat Yourself Skinny will be divine!
- 2 quarts water
- Juice of one lemon
- 2 lemons, thinly sliced
Combine all ingredients and place in fridge for a bit to allow flavors to infuse. Once pitcher is chilled, serve to friends and enjoy!
